The book, "Indian Biography or an Historical Account of those Individuals who have been Distinguished Among the North American Natives as Orators, Warriors, Statesmen, and other Remarkable Characters, in Two Volumes," by B. B. Thatcher, Esq., A. L. Fowle Publishing, New York, 1900. These two volumes present a huge amount of information about Native Americans (Indians) who interacted with North American colonists in the early days of our country. Most tribes and individuals profiled were from the East Coast, but some are from the area where modern day Indiana is now. When the earliest American colonies were young, there were three principal native 'Nations' in North America. Each of these Nations was a confederacy of 'Tribes;' and each Tribe was subdivided into families or clans who lived together. This book contains data on many, many individuals and tribes. There is data about European colonists that dealt with the tribes as well. The volumes contain about 650 pages and the CD has a fully linked Table of Contents. The CD book is also fully searchable; you can search the book using the Adobe Reader 'search' function. Please note: This is not a paper book, it is a scan of the original paper book into the digital Adobe PDF format, written on a CD-ROM. You read this book on your computer using the free Adobe Reader software. It is a digital version of a hard to find book. If you could find a copy of the 1900 printed book, it would be very expensive.
This is a list of most of the individuals mentioned in the books. The list contains both European names and 'Indian' names. I have tried to reflect all of the spellings of the Native American names in the text.
